                       Music at JAA

At JAA, all students study music. Music is an expression of God's gift of beauty and creativity to humanity. The JAA Music program helps equip each student to praise God using music. Music develops thinking, social, and motor skills. Studies have shown that students who study music often do better in their other subjects. Music helps each student to become a better creative and critical thinker. Music is a part of a sound education.

The classroom music for Grades PK to 2 teaches movement, feeling, playing, singing, reading and understanding. Students in Grades 3 and 4 are given an introduction to the recorder, vocal part-singing, and hand chimes in preparation for Handbell Choir.

Students in grades 5 to 8 are taught music appreciation, theory and history, and are allowed to audition for, and participate in the Select Vocal Choir or the 3-octave Handbell Choir. Some may also wish to start a band instrument (more about Band below). These ensembles perform publicly a number of times throughout the school year.

Commitment to practice and performances are the criterion for acceptance into an ensemble listed above.

All JAA students perform for special concerts through out the school year.
